SUMMARY
The specific epithet “anchietae” refers to the Portuguese naturalist José Alberto de Oliveira Anchieta (1832-1897) who traveled widely in Angola and Mozambique. He died at age 66 after returning from an expedition to the Caconda region of Angola, and it is suggested that he was suffering from chronic malaria. He was responsible for identifying 25 new species of mammals, 46 birds and 46 amphibians and reptiles. At least 14 species of animals are named after him, including birds, reptiles, mammals, and Ptychadena anchietae, which was described using specimens sent from Anchieta to Bocage.
