Abstract:

Consideration on the African small Ranids of the genus Phrynobatrachus, possessing a spine-like dermal appendage on the upper eyelid. Among the 64 species listed by Frost (1985), only four [P. calcaratus, P. cornutus, P. annulatus and P. villiersi] present this particular character. They are reviewed with the study of new material. A fifth species: Phrynobatrachus taiensis n. sp. is described. Original photos are provided.
